Supervision is a place where you can grow as a clinician, challenge yourself, unload the obstacles the work may present, unpack how bias and privilege informs our work and most importantly, explore how to sustain in this work through self- of- therapist work. The supervisory relationship is an important component of the growing clinicians process and the . This can be really hard work at times, so having a support and team is valuable.
Supervision Process
My purpose through supervision is to provide:
An experience where growth as a practitioner evolves, empowerment as a practitioner evolves, and where a competent and ethical practitioner evolves.
A positive and growing experience where practitioners feel comfortable to discuss their strengths and weaknesses without feeling inhibited by the evaluation process..
An in-depth exploration provides feedback for growth and allows us to identify areas that are working really well and to see why they are working well.
I strive to help practitioners understand and abide by the ethical guidelines, which govern our profession. As your supervisor I am ethically and legally responsible for the clients under your care, therefore, it is essential that we build a relationship, which fosters authentic, open, and honest communication.
I find it helpful to use pieces of Relationship Models, Development Models, and collaborative and narrative approaches in my supervision practice. In order to build on the previous need of safety and trust, I find Relationship Models to be the most effective in this process with my supervisees.
I incorporate these models into our sessions with the hopes of supporting you and helping you to move forward no matter where you are starting in the process. I find it essential to root the reflection of practice in racial equity, social justice , and advocacy . This will include addressing racial and cultural differences, which exist between supervisor and supervisee as well as those between client and supervisee. I will spend time working with you to identify social justice issues which come up in your work. I hope I can
empower you to address these injustices in our supervision sessions and to find ways to support clients who may be facing injustices. We often work with clients who are constantly plagued by oppression, and it is part of our job to address this oppression and to address systems that perpetuate the oppression. In turn, we will also focus on how to advocate for our clients when they do face these trials and to change any of our practice approach, which may contribute to oppression. Finally, I aim to support you in becoming an advocate in your learning experience as a professional. I like to employ various methods and techniques in supervision including: case consultation, video/audio taping, role playing, application of theoretical techniques to cases, review of literature, and role reversal. I greatly encourage supervisees to explore techniques, which may feel uncomfortable at first, yet will provide a great learning and growing experience.
My personal style is relaxed and again building on a safe and comfortable environment. I like to encourage supervisees to drive their learning experience and learning needs. Once we have formulated goals, I work to support these goals by identifying strengths and working in ethical considerations, theories and practices, which support your goals with clients.
